I was flipping through the pages of my Bible but I didn’t know what I wanted to read. I randomly opened it to the book of 1 Thessalonians, chapter 4. I read verses 16-17 that said, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” At the time, I had recently returned home from my second tour in Iraq, and this verse referring to meeting the Lord in the air made me think of the daily executive meetings I attended with the Commanders of our medical group during my tour in the war.
I began to parallel the issues of leadership and the activities of corporate America with the scriptures, and the time when Jesus Christ will descend from Heaven and meet his believers in the air. I started to think of how this meeting will be, and what else will take place. I then started to use the analogy of corporate, business and leadership activities and how they relate to the above Bible verse. Since I have experience in being a military leader, I saw this would be a great fit to mesh the above verse and leadership/business/corporate America and create a story. I chronicle issues that occur in the corporate world and I align these issues with similar events that occurred in the Bible. I show how man deals with issues and how issues are dealt with in the scriptures. This book goes to show that at the final executive meeting, Jesus Christ will be Chairman of the board. |

In many of my keynote speeches on leadership, I make the bold assertion that "great leaders are born, and good leaders keep working at it." This is based on my own observations and experiences during my fifty years of working, following and leading where necessary. Mark makes an awesome parallel of great leadership qualities, and the great leadership qualities of Jesus Christ, who was and is a great leader. Those who most need to read this book probably will not read it. They already think they know everything there is to know about leadership. But those who are great to good leaders and believers in Christ will read this book. As I have, they will find it inspiring and reinforcing of the things we are doing right as leaders. Whereas Mark's twenty six years of military service helped shape his perspectives on leadership, the parallel perspectives on the leadership of Jesus Christ had to come through and from his faith in Christ. I get a lot of requests to write forewords for books, which I can't always accommodate, but this one immediately captivated me. I now know that it was because of the connection to Christ, and the many years I have spent in leadership positions, writing and speaking on this important subject. Jesus Christ is the Chairman of the Board for our life and our salvation. His divine leadership is all we need as believers in Him. Mark explains it so well. Start reading and be inspired! |

This is the story of how Mark wrote The Fight is Already Fixed. Mark was up late one night in Balad, Iraq, and he couldn’t sleep because of the constant explosions and gunfire. Mark was the Superintendent for a MedeVac unit in Iraq. He was reading the Bible, in the book of Revelation. He began to read verse 20:10 as it says, “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Mark instantly related that verse to the sport of boxing that as believers, our fight is already fixed. When a fight is fixed, you already know who wins the fight before it starts. It doesn’t matter how much we suffer in this
life. It doesn’t matter how many times we are wronged by people. It doesn’t matter how many times we are victimized. As believers, we know that we have the victory in the end. His spirit led him to the idea to write a book that was based on that verse. The Fight is Already Fixed glorifies God through the sport of boxing. This book chronicles the activities that are taking place in a championship boxing match between two men. It is a commentary of what each boxer is doing, and the situations they get into during this fight. The various situations are paralleled to our life issues and scripture is cited to verify the commentary. This book is 12 chapters, just like a championship boxing match is 12 rounds. Each round of this fight has a subtitle to indicate the issues that are addressed in that particular round. This book can be understood by anyone. You do not have to be a boxer to enjoy this book. This book is easy to read and it is educational, inspirational and entertaining for any reader who wants to read an exciting and unique story. This book also gives the reader a chance to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.
